A membrane keypad with tactile switches also offers an array of benefits to the users. A tactile membrane switch has a snap action that is noticeable after pressing a button. It informs a user that his/her action has taken place. A tactile membrane switch may have a dome made of stainless-steel or polyester. The stainless-steel domes offer best tactile response due to its superior conductivity. The polyester domes may generate a milder response and have a shorter operating temperature range in comparison to the metal domes.

These days, it is not hard to find a membrane keypad with mixed panels. The mixed panels offer the benefits of both tactile and non-tactile membrane switches, as it unifies both types of switches in one panel. In some devices or machines, a large active area is required for a particular type of switch and another area need another type of switch.
